Design icons for the perfect coffee ritual
Coffee is more than a drink: it is a ritual. Alessi has transformed this daily gesture into an art form, with objects that combine iconic design and outstanding functionality. From timeless moka pots to contemporary drip coffee makers, discover how Alessi has reimagined the way we prepare and enjoy coffee at home.
The Icons of Italian coffee
Few objects embody Italian coffee culture as perfectly as the moka. Alessi has reinterpreted this symbol through timeless designs:
- 9090 by Richard Sapper – the first Alessi espresso coffee maker, a true design classic, awarded the Compasso d’Oro
- Pulcina by Michele De Lucchi – a unique moka that optimizes coffee brewing while embodying sculptural design.
- La Cupola by Aldo Rossi – playful architecture translated into a coffee maker, celebrating creativity at the breakfast table.
Brewing coffee with a moka
With its quick preparation, concentrated volume and rich aroma, the moka turns a simple daily gesture into a timeless Italian experience.Although each Alessi moka has its own unique personality and design, they all share the same principle of use:
01. Fill the base chamber with cold water, keeping the level below the safety valve.
02. Add ground coffee into the filter funnel, levelling it gently to the brim.
03. Screw the upper part firmly onto the base chamber, ensuring it is tightly closed.
04. Place it on the stove, over medium to low heat...and in just a few minutes, enjoy an authentic Italian coffee.
Beyond moka: filters, presses & slow coffee
Coffee is a universe of rituals, and each method reveals a different story of aroma, time, and taste. Beyond the moka, there are slow, contemplative ways of brewing - presses, filters, drip coffee - that invite you to pause and savor the process as much as the result. These alternative methods celebrate patience and precision: the gentle immersion of a press, the delicate flow of a pour-over, the gradual infusion of drip coffee. Each one transforms coffee preparation into an experience, where design and ritual come together to heighten the pleasure of every cup.
